GENTLEMEN,
Ia offering myself as a Candidate for the post of Medical Officer of Health for your district, I beg to draw your attention to the following facts.
Having early devoted myself to the study of Practical Chemistry, and having gone through the prescribed course at Queen's College, Belfast, I proceeded to Dublin, where I also worked for a very con- siderable period in the Laboratory of Dr. Campbell, Ex-Scholar, Trinity College, Dublin; Professor of Chemistry in the Carmichael College. After taking the degree of Doctor of Medicine, and passing the College of Surgeons of London, I gained an appointment in the Army Medical Service, While undergoing my course of instruction by competition, in August, 1864, at the age of 21 years.
at the Army Medical School, Netly, I devoted myself to the study of matters relating to the Public Health, and worked (specially at Water Analysis) with Dr. Parke's, Professor of Sanitary and Hygiene at the Army Medical School, investigating also the methods for the Treatment and Utilization of Sewago.
In December, 1864, I forwarded a lengthened Report to the Director-General of the Army, on the Ventilation and Examination of Air in Barrack rooms, which Report was published, by I have his order, in the Annual Statistical Blue Book of the Army, for the year 1865-1866. served for upwards of six years on Foreign Service in India, and, during that period, I have held the following Sanitary Appointments, separate and apart from that of my rogimental oharge
I-Sanitary and Brigade Medical Officer for the Civil and Military Station of Dinapore, Bengal, for the year 1866.
II.--Sanitary and Brigade Medical Officer for the Station of Cawnpore, including Sanitary supervision (by special appointment) of the entire District inhabited by the employées of the Great Easter Indian, Oude, and Rohilcund Railways, for the year 1867,
III-Had sole Medical and Sanitary charge of the Cholera Camp at Allahabad, from November, 1867, until May, 1868.
IV.-Had also Sanitary supervision of the great Camp at Allahabad during the entire time the whole of the Bengal troops were concentrated there, awaiting orders to proceed to Bombay, en route to Abyssinia.
IV.-Had Sanitary supervision of the Cavalry Barracks and surrounding Districts, at Bangalore, Madras, under Deputy Surgeon General Barclay, from June, 1868, until the end of And my performance of the foregoing duties for upwards of six years, has made me thoroughly acquainted with the details of Sanitary Law, und with the practical Sanitary Administration of a large District.

I am a Doctor of Medicine of the Queen's University of Ireland, a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Loudon, and a Licentiate in Midwifery of the Royal Rotunda Hospital, Dublin. If successful, I should be prepared at once to comply with the conditions of the appointment.
As a personal canvass may be forbidden, I content I may add that I am in my 30th year. myself with forwarding you copies of a few special Testimonials.
